I have a Dewalt DC 385 18v reciprocating saw that the reciprocating assembly where the blade mounts has become disconnected from the motor. The motor runs, but the blade does not move.

Anybody out there have any experience with these and can they be repaired?

I can't take it back to the store or get warranty since it is no longer in warranty.

Thanks,
Dale

I had to search for a shop that did tool repair. I found one about 20 miles from where I live. These shops are rare, but they are out there. Go to the Dewalt website and there should be a link to service providers near where you live. These little repair shops charge a fair rate, but they do mark up parts somewhat.

Yes shops can repair them..but now..as far as Dewalt goes..They have really gone downhill... If it is an older dewalt.over 5 years old..I would have it done.. call a place that handles staplers..nail guns etc..alot of them do repairs...here is a link to get parts for both styles of dc 385..these are for type 1 and type 2 dc 385's

Sure they can be repaired, most anything can, it just depends on how much money you're willing to throw at it to get it done. There's a wobble arm in most sawz-alls that attaches to the end of the armature shaft and causes the blade shaft to move back and forth. It's possible that the nut holding it on to the armature is loose, or that it's broken or that the shaft itself is broken. Unless you're incredibly handy and mechanically inclined, this is not a job you want to attempt on your own. DeWalt and Black and Decker are merged now and offer Service Shops in many larger cities. Look in your local yellow pages for one of them or for a good electric motor shop, either one should be able to help, at least with an estimate.
