I like the nickname Ben. It's very nice, sweet, and can grow well with a person, from infancy to adulthood. I personally don't care for Benjamin a lot, but it's fine. I personally associate the nickname Benji with Good Charlotte and the dog, but it's a cute nickname for a small child too.
If you're not thrilled about the given name Benjamin, but still like the nickname Ben, here's some more ideas:
Benedict
Bennet
Reuben
Benson
Benoit
Bentley
Benton
Corbin
Tobin
Albin

I like it just fine, but it's far too common a choice for my taste. Mostly because of all the parents using it because they were "thinking of calling him that with the nick name ben." ;) Just a very popular nickname at the moment. You might also like Bennett, by the way.

If you like benjamin call him that.
If you prefer ben call him that.
I think benjamin is long and ridiculous.
I have never met one person who wants to be called benjamin. Only ben.

I love Benjamin. It was my first choice for my son, but I ended up not going with it because I hate the nickname Benny and was afraid he'd be stuck with it.
