In metallurgy and solid state diffusion, it can be thought of as a "pressure" but it is not really a force in the same sense as the air pressure in a balloon is a force. There is a driving force for diffusion that is based on the composition gradient, the solubility of the different species, and temperature. In liquids and gasses, diffusion happens much more quickly.
