Me and my husband tried but as we got closer to the Stratosphere it looked like a bad neighborhood and we turned back there.

yep loads of times. The neighborhood past wynn gets sketchy alrite but its pretty harmless all the same. i stayed a week at the sahara hotel and also in a place further north years ago and both were ok, even really late at night.

it will improve in 3-4 years with all the 5 stars hotels going up that way so in say 2011 you will have no fears or walking up that way

That was a pretty wise choice. There used to be a popular water park by the Stratosphere where lots of families gathered, but it was closed a couple of years ago -- that area isn't the best part of town -- but certainly is not the worst. It's kind of on the edge of hooker-ville. Turn right if you want to hook up with a lady of the evening or afternoon. It's best to stay down in the REAL tourist-fest -- from the Belagio - MGM Grand - etc. See the dancing waters, etc. I live an hour out of Vegas and worked in Vegas for a couple of years. It's better to stay where there are lots of bright lights and people. At night, I would not walk down to the Stratosphere. Best to drive there if you want to ride the coasters at the top of the building.

oh yes, very drunk too. :) i had a blast. My father lived by the Stratosphere area and it wasn't too great of a neighborhood. just stay in the front area and not the back parking area. I would always be carefull of anybody and anywhere in Vegas.

I have and there is parts of Las Vegas that are ghetto and thats one of them. I would be in a car if you want to go to the Stratosphere.

Walking to the Strat during the day would be OK if you are not alone.

Same with Fremont, any where under the Fremont light show canopy would be fine anytime but NEVER stray from there after dark.

It was probably a good choice. Not the best neighborhood. Better to take a cab, trolley or bus there. Good place to visit but not the greatest location.

If you stay on the strip, you are safe around the Strat. its when you go behind the place and into whats called "naked city" that you have problems.
