He should of got a suspension and he should be in the HOF without a doubt. It was a horrible call by the MLB.

ahh but should he have, sure he bet on games, but he was the best hitter the game has ever seen, reinstate him and you have the all time hit leader, even if they dont let him back in baseball when he is alive. they should and most likely will when he dies. he deserves to be in the hall of fame no matter what he did. the hall is to judge peoples play on the field, not what they did off

When you go into a baseball clubhouse, there's always a sign that warns players and coaches that gambling is against the rules and can get you banned for life. When the players who are now accused of having taken steroids took their drugs back when none of those drugs were banned by baseball--all those drugs were legal within baseball at the time! so they're weren't yet breaking the rules. That's why.

Yes. He bet on baseball. And while it's true he technically never bet against his team. Basically since he did bet on them to win certain games he was essentially betting against them on nights when he didn't bet for them. His achievements as a player warrant a Hall of Fame Bid but he broke the sacred rule as manager. Everyone associated with the game knows what will happen if they get caught.

EDIT: In regards to the 2 answers aqbove mine. Bonds technically isn't a cheater because when he used HGH it was illegal by law but in the game of baseball it was not banned.

Shoeless Joe Jackson still hasn;t been allowed in the Hall what makes you think they'll allow Rose in after he dies? Yes both their numbers make them H of F worthy. But they both bet on games they were involved with.

Besides I think the fact that they haven;t been voted in makes them immortal. The great controversy surrounding the 2 will live on as long as there is baseball.

He should be let back in to baseball. Yes, he bet on baseball, but who is Bud Selig to decide wheather or not it would be in the best intrests of baseball. We alow cheaters, alchoholics, and a player named Orlando Cepeda who was arrested for picking up marijuana in 1975. He was sentenced 10 months in jail, but did not serve the whole time. Yet he is in the HOF. The Black Sox scandal happened over 88 years ago, I don't see why it still factors today when more and more players are being named for using HGH. In the coming years, we'll see how ,any players do not get into the HOF because there will be quetions of their carreer stats. There are no questions about Rose's stats. He did a wrong thing, i think he has paid long enough.

He bet on baseball. That is the biggest rule violation in the sport.
He then lied about it.
He kept on lying about it for about 20 years.
Then he wrote a book where he admitted he had been lying.

Betting on baseball is the equivalent of treason to the sport.
Would you want Benedict Arnold to have been president? But hey, he was a great general before he was a traitor--and Grant drank, and Ike had an affair, and Pershing was kind of a racist...

The whole situation is tragic, but the rules are in place to protect the integrity of the outcome of games. There is really no way to compromise that, therefore a ban is appropriate for him and anyone else that bets on the game in which they have an active role in. A statement has to be made, to bad it has to be to one of the game's great but as fans at least we know great players will not get treated better then the rest and that the rules apply to them as well.

Pete Rose should have been banned, however it shouldn't of been for life much less from the HOF.

He was a great player and deserves to be in the Hall.

He did the same thing as Shoeless Joe Jackson and the 7 other Black Sox members did, he bet on baseball, he team not matter what, it was discovered, and well he got banned, so if betting on basbeall is not allowed, then yes he should and he got what he deserved.

Yes, but not necessarily from the Hall.

Pete used to brag that he wanted to be the first person to be inducted into the Hall of Fame unanimously. He might have made it at one time. How ironic.

Now that you've mentioned it, how is it that he was banned for gambling, but Bonds is still technically in the league for cheating...?

Actually, I saw your South Park avatar on the main page and decided to voice my opinion. Didn't even click on baseball. lol

Truth: It has nothing to do with HGH being "illegal." Bonds used it. No one beefs up that quickly. He cheated. Has nothing to do with the law.
