Jesse Owens: “Hitler didn't snub me—it was [FDR] who snubbed me. The president didn't even send me a telegram.” - quoted in Triumph, a book about the 1936 Olympics by Jeremy Schaap

Not only did Germany win far more medals than any other country at the 1936 Olympics, but the Nazis had pulled off the huge public relations coup that Olympic opponents had predicted, casting Germany and the Nazis, falsely, in a positive light. In the long run, Owens' victories turned out to be only a minor embarrassment for Nazi Germany.

In his autobiography (The Jesse Owens Story, 1970) Owens recounted how Hitler later stood up and waved to him anyway:
"When I passed the Chancellor he arose, waved his hand at me, and I waved back at him. I think the writers showed bad taste in criticizing the man of the hour in Germany."

In retrospect, Hitler's quick wave was probably a PR stunt to make Germany appear friendly.

I hate to say this, but the importance of jesse Owens is a bit of a myth. He was just a fly in the ointment.
The 1936 Olympics were overwhelmingly successful for the Germans. You just have to look at the stats.

I'm sorry to say this, but I think you're the one who has a complex. Believe me, most people, specially when they are young, want to live a full life. And your boyfriend certainly seems to be one of those, as he wants to keep on with his dream career, even though he hasn't had too much success so far. People don't marry anyone because they found someone they feel superior to. They rather prefer someone they are proud of. Oh, and by the way, let your boyfriend pursue with his dream, or at least until he feels happy...
