"How are you?"- do you think they really care?
And do you really care when you return the question back to them?

I don't think they do. It's like a greeting of "good morning".
I just respond "fine" and get on with the day.

depends on who it is. I think if they really care you can hear it in their voice but like at the store when the cashier asks or something like that they don't care it's just there job to ask and i ask them back to be polite

it depends on the person. if that eprson is a close friend then they do care and i reply honestly and i do return the question, i return the question and do care for anyone though

Most of the time no. I think it's just our way of being polite. Most of the time were to busy to really listen for the reply. Sad to be this way. We make life so hard for ourselves by being so busy. We need to take a minute and breathe and really listen. Me anyways.

I think most people don't care...I try to, but I find myself asking and also responding without listening to other people's answers at times...I think we all need to be more aware...or rephrase to just "hello, good to see you"...

Maybe some do but I'm sure the majority don't. Not in a mean way - just they don't give it a second thought.

I honestly ask them "Do you really want to know or are you being polite?" The response I usually get is "I'm just being polite."
