I saw this on Mythbusters...your eyes don't bulge out or pop out of the sockets. They held their eyes open while they sneezed and used slow motion cameras to watch what happened...and nothing happened.
It's just a natural reflex I guess.

Sneezing is a gift of nature, in that what ever poisonous ans hazardous substance we are exposed to and tries to get into lungs, then to bring out the dangerous stuff with our effort or concern we get sneeze.
This sneeze originates deep in the lungs and comes with so much of pressure that it brings out all that inhaled dust like poisons along with moisture from out of lungs through nose.
This action is not known to us or not done by us with ant effort. So we have to travel inside and close ourselves to the external world. Thus in an effort to concentrate inside, and deep inside, the eyes automatically get closed and all concentration is kept on inside to bring out the sneeze.

They don't. It's very hard to do, but you can hold them open. I saw it on Myth Busters. But.....if you don't hold them...then they do...it's just a natural reflex...probably to protect them from the stuff we sneeze out...as gross as that thought is...

if they didn't close, our eyeballs would shoot out due to the force of the sneeze.

The pressure from our nasal cavities would make them pop out

Good grief, if you didn't close them your eyeballs might fly across the room.
