I've heard that is the reason why you wake up right before you feel like you're going to die in a dream. Has anyone ever dreamed that they died and lived through it?

(I know, obviously if you're answering this question you lived through it)

No. I've dreamed I died numerous times and never woke up to find myself dead....

Oh, come on! Think it through. It might be possible to disprove this theory, assuming that 1) an informant tells you that s/he died in a dream. Obviously if the informant tells you, s/he did not actually die. It would not be possible to prove the opposite: that a person died in his/r dream thereby causing his/r death. Such a person would be unable to tell you the content of his/r dream. It is highly improbable that a person would die because s/he died in a dream. It is conceivable that a person could have a shocking dream that could trigger a heart attack or a stroke, but how would we ever know the content of the dream unless the dreamer survived to tell the tale?

No. I used to wonder about this myself, but I had a dream where I died, no mistaking I was dead by the way, and woke up shortly thereafter, alive and well. BUT I will never forget this dream, every detail is firmly etched into my mind, unlike regular dreams that you forget almost the moment you awaken, or never remember any part of TO forget. BTW, in this dream everyone in the world died at nearly the same instant. I felt myself 'vapourise' and was gone in an instant. No pain, no trauma, it was simply too quick. But, I did realise I was dead.

Well the only instance I've heard of was the director Wes Craven (director of Nightmare on Elm Street) said he was inspired to do the movie by an article he read where Thai teens that were otherwise healthy were dying in their sleep. I think they may have been complaining of nightmares and the drs. weren't sure what was wrong with them, but it was more than one that died. But that was either in the 80s when the film was made or before then.

Good question - misunderstood by many answerers.

You may be right - whenever we dream we are dying, we usually wake up before we die in the dream. I have yet to hear of someone actually seeing his/her own death in a dream.

Maybe you should re-phrase your question to "Did you ever die in your dream?"

No it's not true. Yes, I've died in a dream (dreamed I was shot in the head) and woke up from it after everything in the dream went completely black.

If that were true, I would have died a lot of times already. We talked about dreams in my psychology class before, you dying just means that you're changing.

I have. I was murdered in my dream, but I came back to life before I woke up. So, I don't know what the connection to actual death really is.

I've heard that also. I've never died in my dreams, I've always woken up before hand.
