Pine and things related to pine. The oils in it are toxic. You can use Aspen if you're looking for natural bedding, but I use cage carpet. It's much easier to clean and looks nicer, IMHO.

Cedar shouldn't be used for any reptile because the oils are poisonous and will kill them. Some people say the same thing about pine, but that's widely debated. I know people that have used pine and had no problems and I know people who claim their snakes had a bad reaction to the pine. If you're going with a wood shaving you should use aspen. It works really well and the snakes love it. That's what I use. Some people say that you shouldn't use sand because the snake can ingest it and become impacted. Try to stay away from sand. If you're not going for looks you can just use plain white paper towels. They are easiest to keep clean. I use aspen for my kings.

Nothing like gravel or walnut shells or sand. Things that can be swallowed easily are not good. Aspen is very safe, but always feed your snake in a separate, substrate free container anyway.
