Would live aquarium plants be able to survive in a pond? I am getting a pond soon so i am kind of doing a little research about them first.

There are many aquatic or bog plants that would fit your pond perfectly. Fully aquatic species include Anacharis/Elodea, Tiger Lotus (they will produce lily pads with flowers), Banana Plants (they will also produce flowering lilies), Sword Plants (though they may grow out of the water), Onion Plants, Java Fern, and many others. Keep in mind, you will need to do a good job of controlling the algae, or it will choke out these plants... Bog plants like bamboo, Cattails, and other reedy plants make great additions to the water's edge... All the plants I listed will have no issues tolerating lower temperatures, but algae control will be key... Contact me if you have any questions.

A live plant aquarium is a wonderful sight and truely one of the most enjoyable aquariums you can have though they do take more work. More consistent work is probably a better way to state this. Make sure your water changes are always on schedule because if you don't pay attention to the needs of your plants they will cause a lot of problems with algae, etc. Get on a schedule of trimming the plants as well. Make sure the lighting is properly set up and you have CO2 supplemented into the aquarium. You will probably need 3 full spectrum bulbs and the aquarium will have to be heavily plated from the start. Goto the Aquatic Gardners web site, they should have some good info. The best book ever written and the original bible of aquarium plants is the Optimum Aquarium. This is the Dutch style. The book is dated and I don't think the substrate heating is necessary for most plants though you will learn a lot if you can find this book. Make sure you know you are getting a proper lighting & co2 system and you are way ahead on this deal. Ask him what types of plants he has and do some reasearch about them as well as how you want to design your aquarium. You'll love this tank though can not put fish that eat plants in here, like Koi. There are a lot of great plant friendly fish though make sure you get some true Siamensis and either a lot of Otocinclous or DWARF bristlenose plecostomous. Amano shrimp are helpfull as well as the flower or bamboo shrimp.

Hi,
i am not sure because you did not give me enough information. First of all i need to know how big your pond is going to be. Also the temperature of the water too, because the live plant may not survive in cold weather. Also i need to know if you are importing any fish into your new pond.
Give me more info and ill be glad to help.!

What kind of pond are you getting? A liner pond of a plastic tub pond. Well you can get some Amazon Sword plants, or some Pond Lillies.

Best Answer.
