On the way home from the mall today on the subway (traveling 15 feet above ground), on the way past a skate park a man chased and pushed down this man and started kicking his head and stepping on him...then a man got off his bike and tackled the guy attacking to get him to stop...then the train left and that's all I saw. Do I need to do anything...all I remember is that, and the attacker was wearing black and white stripped track pants. It looked bad, he was kicking his head in.

I havn't heard anything on the news, but it might still be too early...this was about 2 hours ago.

Did you ever see the final episode of Seinfeld, where the gang gets arrested for nothing, well saddly that is not the case. However, you can testify to what you saw. The man who stopped the attack can attest to the identity. You saw it begin, so you should go and report what you saw and where you saw it. Then, likely a detective will call you and get your info. You can keep your address and phone number out of the report. You will be protected, and you will feel good about yourself as a human being.

Of course you should do something - call the police!! You witnessed a violent attack that for all you know could have been a MURDER. You remember a lot of details (write them ALL DOWN before you forget any of them) & you could hold enough of the missing information they may need to arrest the guy for all you know! I know if I were being kicked in the head and possibly paralyzed or worse, I'd sure hope someone would speak up & help get the guy off the street!!! Geezus man - where's your head?!?!?! CALL THE COPS!

You might call the precinct for that area and ask the desk clerk about it. It's possible that what you saw could be helpful information if the assault was reported and is being investigated.

Thank you for your concern. Try to find out what police precinct is the nearest to the place where this happened (you can do research on Internet), then call the precinct and tell them what you saw. Or you can call any police precinct and ask them how to call the precinct nearest to the crime scene.
