I always looked forward to the hand-cut ribbon candy and the peppermint straw candy with mint in the middle. Mmmm.:)

Definitely the ribbon candy!!! I buy it every year to relive my childhood. I also love those hard candies shaped like raspberries with cream filling, and of course, peanut brittle.

That was always my favorite too. I never saw it in the house
any other time of the year. So it was a real treat when mother
set out a wooden bowl of candy and spanish peanuts when
company was coming by during the holidays. When I'd visit
my grandparents during that time, she'd always have the
delicious chocolate covered cherries out. That was her favor-
te and she'd always let me have a couple. Mmm, so good.
She also made candy for all of us who'd go to the farm
for Christmas Day dinner. It was different each year. Once
she made peanut clusters. Covered in chocolate of course.
And she liked Divinity and made a small batch of that. And
sometimes fudge with chopped walnuts. And she always made the German licorice cookie, Pffernuesse. I guess she thought we kids liked them. But we just were polite to take just one.
One Christmas, she made her own chocolate covered cherries. But they just weren't the same taste as
those that came in the box. And she said she didn't enjoy them as much either. But you can bet that every piece of
fudge, or divinity and last dipped cherry had a special token of love tucked right inside. Because, that's what grandmas' do. And that's why we love them so.

Marzipan! Made into little fruit shapes [apples, pears, plums] that were so lifelike...but tasted soooooo good. A once a year treat only at Christmas [v. expensive] - and a Droste apple wrapped in foil that you tapped open into perfect slices - and my mom's chocolate-dipped candied orange peel - and my Aunt Fran's date-nut treats all the way from California. Bowls of ribbon candy, riiiiight...plus choc covered peanuts in a bowl on the coffee-table...honor system FHB [Family Hold Back] since they were for the guests!

Ribbon or the small round hard ones with the picture in the middle (they were only about 1/4 inch in diameter) Oh I forgot-My great grandma's divinity. Never been able to duplicate it. And the raspberry with the raspberry filling. If we all loved them so much why aren't they still around????

All I can remember are the ribbon candies. My grandma used to have them. Oh, mom (being a health food freak) would buy me pure maple candy. Yummm. And I wonder why I have a sweet tooth!

There was a candy store in Philadelphia when I was growing up that made the most delicious lolipop I've ever tasted. If I try really hard, I can imagine I am walkiing into Shellenbergers in downtown Philly and buying a dozen of them. It was just a clear color, but oh my goodness it was so good.

I loved (still do) the little hard raspberry candies with the soft centers. It's the only hard candies I have ever liked. I take that back, I like chocolate Tootsie Pops.
