In recent years AMD has outdone Intel in it's performance, but a dual core CPU is better for multitasking, and more and more games are supporting multiple threads. by strange chance i have two desktops one is a pentium D 2.8ghz (dual core) and the other is a amd 64 x2 3500. the only advantage I personally see is in the pentiums ability to handle many applications at once. they both game at about the same level. But the fan on the pentium is usually going a lot more than the AMD

For casual computer use, Intel would be better. AMD is usually only for those who like gaming a lot, however I have read that AMD usually outperforms in most aspects of processing, and will be better at multitasking. As for the heating of the processor, they may run hotter, but its nothing the cooler that comes with it can't take if you don't overclock it.

If you want your computer to be super fast choose core 2 duo. 2.66 ghz is great! AMD is ok, but usually better for a budget buyers who aren't all about speed. Core 2 Duo is probably for your wanting.

Check the site out below and you can compare between different applications and what processor rates better. I have the intel pentium core duo mobile and am satisfied with it.
