Why is everyone so easy on this guy? He let the whole steroid era happen under his watch and was probably relatively aware of what was going on. The only successful thing he has ever done is scapegoat the whole thing and draw attention away from his complete lack of integrity.

PS. The All-Star game shouldn’t determine home-field advantage dickwad.

The All-Star Game is supposed to be something fun for the fans, it is not supposed to determine anything. The only reason baseball has got more strict on steroids is because congress called Selig on it and told him do something about it or we will. He does not have the balls to impliment salary caps, instead salaries are getting bloated and out of hand. He has done nothing great for baseball, instead he has let problems fester.

I totally agree the new Mike Schimdt and Pete Rose books tell the real story. Baseball sucks, and it is the owners fault. That being said the players have also done wrong too. Before you judge me think about this... the players used to sign autographs and do things for the people in the community now do they? Players used to put the fans ahead of everythingelse. A few examples I know of is Pete Rose, Sparky Anderson, and Babe Ruth, as well as others which I'm not familiar with. Who would go visit sick kids in hospitals and tell them that they would hit a a home run just for them. Now I'm sure there are still many players who may do this today. But with the widening gulf between the players salaries and the ''common'' man. The game has left the people who love the game... like us out to dry. I'd say it is 90% the owners faults, and about 10% the players. Would I have used steroids in the 1990's... hell yeah I would have cause it meant the difference between making 100,000 a year and making 1,000,000's+ per year. But I totally agree the owners suck.

Great point...I am not abaseball fan any more. After the lock out I lost interest and it never returned, Being a former Blue Jay fan. Anyway Selig should have some form of asterisk mutilation performed on his person.
What is the alternative...maybe Gary Bettman can become the commissioner. He's done a great job of destroying hockey. The 2 make a great pair .

Bud Selig is a two faced scumbag and so are the owners. These clowns all looked the other way when baseballs were flying out of parks and the turnstiles were turning. Yeah, he helped create this mess and he needs to be called out. Ken Caminniti started using a needle and it eventually led to his death. The Houston GM said he thought something might have been going on, but at that time, there were no rules against it. MLB is a joke. I lost most my interest in MLB when they went on strike in 1994. Guess their million dollar salaries was to much of an insult to live on.

Fans are just as much to blame. The majority of the fans didn't care, because all they wanted to see were home runs, and as long as the fans were happy, owners were deaf dumb and blind when it came to steriods. Then it got out of control, that a jealous guy like Bonds thought he was invincible, and away went Aaron's hard working home run record.
Now it's time to say enough. Make Bonds go away for good, and at least put an asterisk by the tainted record now.

Boy, do I agree! If only something could be done for the Players' Union, too. Selig epitomizes what's wrong with baseball, a sport losing popularity every year. I know the numbers are up in the stadiums, but look at TV. Even SI. Baseball has been doing itself wrong for a long time and Selig has helped.

I don't know what rock you've been living under but people are not easy on Selig. Lots of people don't like him. However, you can't deny he's at least had a hand in the attendance going up as well...probably at least partly due to the wild card and new playoff system. Lots of teams are in it for a longer time thanks to the system.

Selig is a terrible commissioner but the owners have him in place as their lackey. He does his job to protect them at all costs. While they all got rich off of the HR boom, they left the players out to dry when it came to accepting responsibilty. The steriod era was a team effort from top to bottom and they are getting off scot free. Sadly, the media allows it since no one does impartial, credible journalism anymore, and Americans as a whole don't seem to care enough to fight back. After all that's how this country was founded. "We're not going to take it anymore and that's it" mentality. Today we have the "whine over the internet and not do anything about it" attitude.

Talk isn't enough... so even we are partially to blame.

PS- The All-Star game is a joke. I agree.

The start of the steroid problem occurred long before the Selig watch.

I agree he is bad, but if he takes the home run record away from that Bonds guy I will take back everything I have ever said about him.
