You will never get the whole picture on a forum like this, the things you need to know would fill a book, not a very large book,or a very complicated one,but more than anybody wants to sit here and type. Break down and spend a little money on a good book and save wear and tear on yourself and your fish. Like one of the earlier answers said the hardest part is learning how to feed and care for the fry, they are so small that you need to learn how to grow microscopic food. The other big item is learning how to get your fish into spawning condition, this involves extra fine water conditions, live foods and knowing how to tell if your fish are both ready to spawn. Hint: Just because the male builds a bubble nest "don't mean nothin".

First you have to find a big and dominant male fish because usually the female will kill the male, so finding a mate is really hard unless you get lucky. You will want to keep the male and female within the same color range also. You need a 30+ gallon tank. But other than that, let nature take its course! Good Luck!

I'm not a certified pro or anything but a couple years ago i wanted a new hobby & well since i didnt have the option to be the test subjuct(J/K). anyways i found that nothing bigger then a five gal. tank, need a place for female 2 hide like plants & stuff, they must be similar in size, & female will have what looks like a whitehead(egg) poke'n out beneath her b4 u even begin. Its a process exhaust'n mentally(watch'n,wonder'n) but beautiful to watch. it will appear that they are kill'n eachother at first (pluck'n fins, chase'n) but it's just the " I am man u r women" game. my advice have lots of cups with lid containers, cuz sheeeshh nothings worst then excitement of it all then mommy & daddy decides "mmmm... honey feel like sushi tonite" tee hee good luck

its hard to keep the fry alive. but your best bet is to have lots of vegetation like in its natural habitat. You can trigger breeding by separating them after a few weeks putting them together in warmer water
