Apologize. In the first place I don't punch my friends, and I try not to have deep conversations while I'm drinking. So, basically you were wrong, although there was some questionable behavior on your friend's part, too. Do you even remember what you guys were fighting about? He'll probably forgive you, but in the future don't physically assault your friends...otherwise no one has your back when other people jump in.

You were both wrong, and should both apologize. There was no need to fight - you could have simply walked away.
True friends wouldn't have offered or agreed to fight; it doesn't matter who reached for who first or who touched the other first.
Tell him you're sorry things got so out of hand that night, and that you both made mistakes you regret. Both of you should agree to never get that drunk again, since you clearly can't control yourselves.

i would talk to him about it. just tell him that he was the one that provoked it and he really started it. plus if he twisted your arm first then its pretty much self defense he could of taken your arm out of the socket or dislocated your shoulder. its pretty much his fault. But if your really do miss him as a friend then i would most defiantly talk to him even though it may sound corny.

it sounds to me that you both made a mistake and he is trying to justify his reaction. let it go.
