If that is not the reason he was fired, he could probably go after the individuals for slander. There is nothing he can do to the company unless these individuals are acting as official representatives of the company when they make these statements.

iF HE WAS CAUGHT DOING DRUGS ON THE PREMISES THEN THAT COMPANY HAS EVER RIGHT TO FIRE HIM AND KEEP HIM FROM GETTING UNEMPLOYMENT, the thing is -is he got caught, he's very lucky he didn't hurt anyone during the time when he was working and doing the drugs 9 times out of 10 many accidents in factories is due to incompetence of the employee, not due to anyone else concerned , so Yes, I'd say this employee should of been terminated. BUT, IF IT TURNS OUT THAT YOUR FRIEND WAS CLEAN DURING THE TIME OF TERMINATION, well then he needs to find out why he was terminated first before going on someone Else's word, and if unemployment is denied he should find that out also, the company has to tell unemployment the reason for termination, so he call either call them or the company, but legal action- no he's better off just finding another job, the reason I say this -is, it takes time and money to follow up anything with legal action and it maybe in the courts for years in the mean time, he's with-out work and finances, and the bill's do keep piling up, so it's up to him in the long-run not you or anyone else, IT'S ALL WHAT HE CAN AFFORD!

No. Companies don't want some druggie working for them. They take part in illegal activities and aren't dependable or reliable.
They can fire him, fer sure... Most companies are "at will" anyway. They can let you go for any reason or none at all.
What he can do is get clean and stop drugging. If he continues, he will be found out anyplace he works (most places have mandatory random drug tests)...he will also run into the law sooner or later.

Not if he is an at will employee. Either party can terminate the employment at any time without notice.

Probably not. Most employees are "at will" employees, meaning the company can fire you for any reason or no reason at all (obviously other than discrimination).
