We live in the North East of England. This question is a poll as to your opinion. I remember learning languages in the Grammar school, so am a little surprised at this 7 year old teaching thing. I thought he was kidding me . He can count a long way up in French and knew a great deal of words.

I am delighted that he is learning . I am surprised simply because when i was a child, we learned much later on in our school life. They say the younger you are the easier it is to learn. That goes for driving too, i imagine.

Learning a standard language, which may be of help in the future, is good. Children can pick up faster!
But, if the child feels overloaded for any reason, then it may not be good, for the time being...

It is wonderful, so long as the child wants to participate. The world is getting smaller and skills in IT and languages are going to become more important so it is as well to start young. Children have a lot of free time on their hands and it is so easy for it to get wasted: why not put it to good use? I guess that everyone has their own ideas of what is relevant for learning at school. Surely this knowledge can only improve a child's confidence. I think French kids are taught to be bilingual at an early age, aren't they?

It's a great idea. The only thing, is that the school has to be consistent and keep teaching it through grade after grade.
He will become at ease with the language that way. It's always a plus to know a second language.
I also believe it broadens the capacity of the mind to think in abstract ways. All good stuff.

It is very good to start learning another language at the earliest age possible.
French or any of the near EU countries languages are ideal whatever views one has regarding the EU.

It is a good thing. After a certain age, it becomes much harder to learn other languages because from that point on a foreign language is stored in a different part of your brain.

I think it's great. I'm suprised you're suprised. There are a lot of language emmersion programs implemented in elementary schools in America.............maybe not as many as there should be....but it's the perfect time to learn another language....and what could be better than teaching the youth how to communicate!?
It's great!

It has long been known that we have a greater aptitude for learning multiple languages at a young age. The older we get the more difficult it becomes.
