80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.

To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

The question doesn't really make sense to ask it this way, in my opinion. Meaning is subjective, certainly, but i think that it has to do with some overall contentment. As though if you were at the end of your life looking back on your decisions, overall you feel content with it. If there were things you missed, then your life is that much less meaningful.

Others believe specifically that meaning is found by dedicating your life to an external, or transcendent, cause that will remain in the world long after you are gone -- as if somehow immortalizing you.

Here's a great quote though:
"Live as if you were living already for the second time and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as you are about to act now!"

To say there is a meaning of life is to say that life is a question, when in fact life is the answer.
We just don't know what the question is yet.

I think the meaning of life is actions and feelings, because when we da any action we get a feeling for it. This question is very complex, my theory is that action creates fellings(for example punching something gives u a feeling,or crying gives u a good feeling), but also actions don't creat feelings(like love, happines, sadness etc.), thats why i call "primary feelings" the type of feelings which actions don't creat, and "secondary feelings" the type of feeling which actions create.

I believe that doing useful work that you enjoy doing gives life a certain amount of meaning. At least that is my experience.

Your want will always exceed your need.
Your desire will always weigh heavy on your soul.
Your knowledge will always be short of your task.
And your ability will always be measured in contest.
But a true love, even as a memory, makes life an endurable task.
