what is a ADHD that has no really bad side-affects like stunting your growth and altering your thoughts and junk like that?

The first answerer said the ADHD doesn't exist outside of the United States, and he is so right!

Come on, let's give our kids lots of drugs, and then tell them not to do drugs!

Drugs are the easy way out. Spend time with your kid, and find out what the problems are. Don't drug him into submission!

And there's no such thing as Alternative Medicine! There's medicine that works, and there's medicine that doesn't work. If it works, the drug companies grab it up, patent it, and make another billion dollars profit.

The side-effects of these meds are unique to each person. I cannot predict how your body will react to any of the adhd meds even though my son has been on most of them, and I have been on some, too.

I never heard of an adhd med that stunted a person's growth. The only altering of your thoughts that I have experienced is that my mind slows down. For me, my mind is too fast, and I slow it down so I can think without my mind jumping from subject to subject.

I don't know how old you are, but in children, caffiene has been shown to be a fairly effective (though not terribly desirable) chemical to help slow the mind.

I am an adult who takes medicine for ADHD. I take adderrall and i like it. I did lose a lot of weight at first, but now i can eat just fine. I haven't lost a pound in a long time. My son is the same way. He is no smaller than the kids in his class. Adderrall has been around for over 65 years. It makes me more comfortable to use than the new med. Strattera that does not cause loss of appetite. It's not a stimulant. It's been out for a few years and they've already had cases of suicide linked to it. I don't want to take something that's new and then find out a few years later I've been slowly killing myself. You're body will tell you what is right for you. You may need to try a few different meds and doses, but you'll know the right one. Just keep that in mind through the whole process so you don't get discouraged. good luck

I am sorry Danny I don't know other than behavior modification therapy. Check out herbs that aid in memory and concentration. That will help.

As far as alternative meds not being real, they are working on extracting enzymes out of Japanese mushrooms that have been used for hundreds of years to treat food allergies. I use yucca for my dog's arthritis and my vet was stunned. The pharmaceutical realm is working with the natural world but they can not do everything. I have been to La Selva many times and they are always finding herbs and plants that have pharmaceutical properties. Native Costa Ricans have known about this forever. For instance, ask any Costa Rican how they would treat a hang over back home. they all say eat some hot lips leaves. I tried it. it works. It also cures head aches with in 5 minutes. Wow. that is better than Advil!!!

Hi Danny there aren't any medications that don't come with a list of side effects, and worse, the medications for ADHD have not been in use for a long enough time to know the long term effects to the body.

You can treat ADHD through diet, supplementation and exercise, that's the best way to go.

My son is currently on Methylin for about 7 months now. He doesn't have a loss of appetite and he has actually grown almost 1 inch since May. Any kind of medications usually have side effects. It depends on what works for you. It might be trial and error for awhile. Good luck!

Perhaps a web search for "attention deficit hyperactivity disorder" + "natural remedies" might be useful.
