Is there anywhere to find wide pieces of soft maple lumber i have only been able to get boards that range from 6-8 inches at 4/4 thickness

Special orders through HD or Lowes. Lumber yards; Recycled lumber yards/mills. The thickness is less an issue than the width. No offense but I wouldn't strictly consider most MAPLE as a soft lumber.

On a side note; I'd love to have a garage full. Most especially Japanese Red Maple.

Rockler has maple at 1 3/4" thickness, but only under 6" wide. They also have thin stock, at wider selections...and veneer in sheets.

I suspect tho, that this may be more helpful - try this link, and enter the search criteria of what you would like.. I just entered 'soft maple' and came up with 159 suppliers. (you can specify other items to narrow the search too)

call around to local lumber mills ...you should be able to find stock wider than 8 in.
