My guy started smiling at 5 weeks, cooing/babbling around that time as well. In fact the day he got his 2 month shots I had him on my lap sitting up facing me and I swear he tried to tell me all about the doctor's visit and how he didn't like the needles!

He began kicking at things around 5 weeks and also learned how to push the big blue button on his FP Aquarium around 6 weeks. He started laughing at 8 weeks. He was also tracking people with his eyes at that age and then he discovered the TV.

At 12 weeks he started grabbing/batting at his toys and trying to hold/play with his bottle or my fingers while eating. He also figured out how to scoot around in circles so most mornings when I go in to get him out of his crib he can be laying in any direction! Now at 15 weeks, in the last week since we re introduced the exersaucer and he loves it he has begun picking toys up, picking up his soother and getting into his mouth on his own (he's done this twice), he rolled over on purpose this morning from back to front for the first time, he tries out new sounds all the time and tries to imitate facial expressions like sticking out the tongue and closing the eyes.

However every child is different. Everyone said my boy should have been able to stick his tongue out at 8 weeks but he was 12 weeks when he mastered it. But when it came to neck control my guy was months ahead of some of his cousins in being able to hold his head up since birth for many minutes at a time. In fact by the time he was 3 weeks old he no longer had floppy head syndrome unless he was really tired.

The more you smile and laugh with your baby, the earlier he/she will do the same behaviours. I make a conscious effort every single time I look at my boy to smile, even at 6:30am when he is ready to get up and I most definitely am not LOL.

The most important thing though is just to relax, let your baby grow at his/her own pace and enjoy. Unless they miss a major milestone by months, don't worry about it!

Baby Interactive Toys

My daughter didn't reach for toys until maybe 5 months old. She begin rolling over at around that same time. Your baby is still fairly young, and may not do either of the events that you asked about for a few months or more. Just keep doing tummy time, and playing games with the toys - eventually he'll reach for one and you'll be so proud!

When Do Baby Start Smiling

My son is almost 5 months old and he started reaching so slowly that I it seemed like it might be an accident that he was touching something in front of him. His corindatino wasn't that good and he wouldn't look right at what he was touching all the time.

He smiled around 6 weeks. laughed around 13 weeks. Reached around 3.5 months I think. Reached out to touch the dog about a week ago. Rolled back to front about 4.5 monhts. Rolled both ways and started liking tummy time and scooting forward or sideways (not cordinated yet or controlled moving around) at 4 3/4 monhts

It is fun! Yesterday he would look at somthing and immediatly focus in on it with his eyes and grab it right away. He is alot of fun now and knows his routine and he knows cause and affect... so if I tickle him 3 times, he is smiling, just waiting for the 4'th time.

For smiling.. it's about 1 month
For grasping objects.. it's about 2.5-3 months
For turning over... about 2.5-3 months
Laughing out load... about 2 months
cooing and mimicking... about 1.5 months
focusing on an object and following it... about 1.5-2 months
sleeping through the night... 1.5-2 months (this is NOT the norm though)

These are things my 2.5 month old son has done so far.. but I am not sure what the normal is.

You will be surprised how fast they interact. But you have to really pay attention. Children just weeks old can respond to their environment. Some children can tell the difference in your and your husband's foot steps and respond to the one they like the best. My friend's child loved her Dad and when she heard him coming she started to coo and coo and raise her arms for her Dad.

They can actually, at just a few months old, learn games where they punch a button and watch a response on the TV. They are amazing little sponges.

Don't do anything you will regret later. They can learn things that at 6 months is funny, but that same behavior at 2 years is obnoxious. So watch out. They can embarrass you when you least expect it.

My son's first attempt to speak was about 6 months and he had heard "I love you" so many times he tried to say it.

At 18 months, he informed he that he "was going to Dales to see-saw and he would be back in a minute"..

Now he's grown and not nearly as cute.

My daughter was starting to roll from back to belly around 2 months, and smiling a little at 1 1/2 months also. Sh really didn't start laughing until 3 months. She started reaching for toys pretty ealry, I'm not sure when exactly. But she's 4 1/2 months now and she reaches for EVERYTHING. Remember, every baby develops at different rates, but on your last question you said your baby was 7 weeks? It won't be long now before she starts more interaction!

the first few months are REALLY BORING. afterwards, they start grabbing things and then start sitting on their own. Then it's (literally) baby steps to crawling, talking, walking, then doing all of the above at a time. I learned all of this from my years with younger siblings
