This AP article provides more detail. I'm not an activist however, I feel that Japan should not be hunting whales on a large scale in the modern era, regardless of the scientific motivations. I would also note that the meat will yield commercial profit. If they chose to continue to kill large quantities of whales, I will continue to boycott Japanese products.

Just B: I would suggest that you move to Isreal and spend some time there before you insert your foot into your mouth. This is a whale issues, please try to stay focused. Thanks

Yasaiman, I do not buy Chinese products, but it has nothing to do with the dolphins, it's due to my view that China's government violates many ideals I hold dear. I would spend my money feeding children before I would spend it on an animal.. I would also like to note that these are not Japanese whales, their range superceeds any one nation. Just 40 years ago the humpback was on the brink of extinction, and now it's acceptable to hunt 50 of them? Maybe we should allow Japan to go hunt 20 Benobo's in the name of science and cut a profit with the bush-meat? This is why I asked this question, and Green Peace has proven that direct acts of sabbotage are not effective and immoral/illegal. It is up to us to question what we feel is wrong, and affecting Japan's economy by boycotting their products this holiday season will be my way of showing support to the humpback.
