I'm 18 at the moment, and I want to learn to drive a motorbike. Is it true that at my age I can only ride a bike of a limited power? And what's all this about a CBT? And roughly how much does it cost for lessons?

Cheers everyone

You will need to undergo your CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) first. This is a legal requirement for anyone wishing to ride a motorcycle or scooter.

At 18, you can ride a motorcycle or scooter up to 125cc, or no more than 11kw (14.6bhp) on 'L' plates.

Once you have passed your test on a 125, you are limited to a motorcycle of no more than 25kw (33bhp) for 2 years, or until you are 21. The engine capacity is irrelevant, as many large bikes can be restricted to 33bhp, then de-restricted after 2 years.

a CBT is what you HAVE to take to get on the roads on a bike, it takes about a day and it will license you to drive up to a 124cc bike this will cost you around £80, you will need extra lessons for a higher one which cost around £15 each

You are limited until about 24 i think it is until you can ride a superbike but im not too sure age/engine size limit
