power everything in it with off-grid power,
Not use any digital communication devices,
and keep the drapes drawn at all times,

how long do you think it would take before a search warrant was issued to search that person's home even if they had no prior criminal record?

I know they should, but do you think that would really happen?

nathan f, it sounds to me, that you have never known anyone who attempted to live completely off-grid.

No warrant, just an FBI hostage rescue team. All the evidence to justify raiding the place can be manufactured and spoon fed to the press.

If anybody gets noticed being upset about it they can be labeled conspiracy nuts. The resulting IRS audit should keep them broke or scared enough (or both) to keep them quiet!

Here in Wyoming you wouldn't be bothered as long as you kept your taxes paid and weren't a nuisance to the neighbors. But, your neighbors will be kind of nosy, so if you're unpleasant, rude, or totally ignorant of the local code of conduct they'll make note of it and probably mention it to the local constabulary, (probably a cousin or uncle). They'll probably watch until they think you are harmless. And yes, we have had some whack jobs living that way for a long time till they got loudmouthed and somebody figured it out. Generally though our local law acts with restraint and doesn't get groundless search warrants. Although, I suspect sometimes they've already checked to see what they are searching for. And, some of their unwritten code of conduct doesn't exactly jib with what some liberals think should be. Or some of us Goldwater conservatives... There is good and bad in everything.

It sounds like your a little paranoid.

On the contrary, I had a cabin in middle Tennessee for 11 years, no phone, no electricity just a generator, got my water from a well, paid my taxes and kept the place decent. The only time I saw a cop was when someone broke in and I got my neighbor to call them for me.

You can live off the grid, but you will be known for your actions in the area. Act like a normal person living off the grid, and you'll be left alone. Act like a bug, you'll be checked on.

Why bother the guy? Leave him alone.
I wish more people would do it and relieve some of the traffic.
