First, I need to say that I personally think OJ was guilty. And that I am white. However, here is my analysis:

I think it was mostly that he had the dream team- great crim. defense attorneys. Also, for the blacks on the jury, it was payback time. They had seen so many blacks get screwed by the criminal justice system that it was their turn to get one of their own off.

There is a very different criminal justice system when someone rich gets charged with a crime than with the average poor defendant who gets pled by an overworked public defender who only puts in a couple of hours on the case.

When someone rich gets charged, there are lots of motions, discovery, investigation, meetings, planning, etc. There is a whole team that puts together a proper defense.

If a poor person gets charged, everyone assumes he's guilty and he gets the standard plea deal and no real defense. So, poor blacks on the jury had seen hundreds of these types of cases where poor blacks got screwed and they didn't trust that uppity white woman prosecutor and didn't believe what she said. If you lose your credibility with the jury, you lose the case.

So, in a sense, it was a racial issue- it's just that the defense attorneys realized this and the prosecution didn't.

I think you hit the nail right on the head! OJ is guilty as sin. Al Sharpton will jump on anything that can get him more publicity.
