I want them to be happy and I have done a lot of searching and need a suggestion of an 18 inch little girl doll that is comparable at a MUCH cheaper price.

Target has dolls that look pretty much the same. They are called Generation girls and they have tons of clothes and accessories to get with them for cheap prices. They are about $20.00. The outfits are about $5.00. They have a bathtub (pretend) for 10$ and a horse for the doll 20$. Just tons of stuff really. They come dressed casual, sporty, princess, diva or pop star. Same height, same build- exact.

Have you considered EBay? Many times, young girls "grow out" of dolls when they're still in good condition. You might find something there.
Alternately, I'd recommend looking at your local toy store. They should have something that's comparable, at a much more reasonable price.

yes the smaller versions of american girl dolls are about 20 bucks, but they are not 18 inches, more like 8 inches. buy them the books, and encourage them to save up their own money to buy there favorite doll. the books are only 7 dollars, i will get my cousin several of the books for christmas. or you can get the bitty babies or bitty twins which run about 40 or 50 bucks.
