An unelected, unaccountable, corrupt bureaucracy have its own army ? Don't hardly think so. If it is the United Nations of which you speak the whole darn organization should be disbanded and reorganized. The United States should insist that headquarters be moved elsewhere and our contributions for its upkeep be reduced to the minimum. When a cadre of third world nations have more say than the main supporter , the organization has lost its value.

Like you say, the EU is an unelected bureaucracy that has shown itself to be fully incomprehensible and has been unable to sign off it's accounts for the last 13 years. It's crazy to even suggest there should be an EU army. If it wasn't for the British army twice in recent history there wouldn't even be an EU!!! I can just see it now, the British soldiers will out fighting the EU's wars whilst the remaining EU soldiers will be unable to fight due to working restrictions that prohibits them from doing more than three hours of fighting without a 30 minute break and no more than 35 hours of fighting in any one week...useless. Good question!

no.... but they do.... the wonderful people elect officials and then just allow them to run a muck... we do need leaders and we do need to have a military that are there for the peoples protection... like the movie "I Robots" the military should never fire on the hands that feed them.... the corrupt bureaucracy is only as corrupt as the people allow them to become.. the people need to add some prime directives? or do we have those safe guards in place already and like sheep are still to busy to take notice because we are just to busy making that bee line to be slaughtered daily... it a good question to feel others out but you know what the answer is,,, As for David Miliband whats his name,,, brother has some serious issues but so did Hitler.. and we know where Hitler is.. It is just too said that Hitler did so much damage before getting his just desserts. History has more than proved your buddy Miliband wrong

I don't think that the EU is unaccountable or corrupt. It is the ONLY international institution with at least a part of it that is elected. It does however, have a democratic deficit. This can be remedied by electing the Commission, which I think could potentially solve a fair few problems.

If an EU force ends up similar to what UN troops are, then I'm all for the idea.

Ranting about the EU? Who said it is unaccountable or corrupt? And if it was, is it any more so than any other state with a military?

I see no problem with greater military co-operation at an EU level. It makes sense, and each member state could spend less on its military.

Elvis, I knew it couldn't last forever lol

CALLUM can you read? Does it say above I "support an EU army?" NO. I said "greater co-operation." That is not the same thing. Closer co-operation = shared technology and intelligence, joint exercises (already happens) and greater use of several small task forces. It already happens to a large extent via NATO, but if you co-ordinate policy more, then each nation can slash its military budget. People are not really keen on spending mega £££s on the army.

Isn't the military already an unelected, unaccountable and corrupt bureaucracy?

I believe you're referring to the UN and my answer to that is a strong NO!

They're after a totalarian one world government as it is and they're getting there inch by inch. First was the EU, next is the NAU...and so forth.

It's a monster that doesn't need teeth.

No, but what bureaucracy isn't corrupt?!
You only need to look at the ** to see that corruption is everywhere!
We need honest, decent people in Government, but, unfortunately, most of them aren't!
Until every country has honest leaders throughout the hierarchy, we will have people like you mentioned taking liberties!
