Castro ? Which Castro ?
I know a nurse named Castro, I had a student named Castro, I had a work mate named Castro, my father had a friend named Castro. Which Castro do you mean ?

In case you were talking about the one that rules Cuba, now there are two, fidel and the little brother, Raul. None of them is a good guy.

Batista was not a good guy either, but fidel and Raul are much worse

To Nancy B: The best thing to understand this is live in Cuba, not read a book or Wikipedia. That is a load of horse manure.

To sem and jim p:
What you say about why fidel became comunist is childish. Go to Cuba and live there, but like common people, not as foreigners. Then you might get an idea of what you are talking about

Dictators are hardly ever good guys. Batista was a friend to the U.S. and a more old fashioned style dictator. He exploited the country and became very wealthy. Castro is a old fasioned style Communist. He has done more for the poor than Batista, but has been horrible to the rich, most of whom have left the country. The everyday person is probably better off under Castro, but nobody is free under either regime. You can look them both up in Wikipedia and learn more.

Neither. Batista was corrupt and didn't care about the massive poverty in Cuba, as long as he got his kickbacks from US businesses and organized crime. That's why the US didn't support him when Castro was leading the revolution (of course, Castro hadn't announced he was a communist yet - if he had, the US surely would have intervened and saved Batista's government). Castro started out with good intentions but quickly became a repressive dictator when he actually took power.

Neither was a good guy - they were both murdering despots. Fidel Castro threw Batista out because he wanted power that Batista held. Fidel's brother Raul personally handled the majority of the executions that followed Fidel's takeover.

Castro only became communist because the US President at the time, JFK, would not recognize him and the Soviet Union would.

Be aware that the referenced article in Wikipedia is in dispute as to neutrality...reads a bit pro-Castro.

Castro WAS a good guy. He saw himself much like General George Washington would have viewed himself. Castro believed he was fighting for the fundamental rights of his people. The Castro brothers would've argued that the American tyranny forced upon Cuba was not unlike that of King George III's tyrannical rule over the colonies. Personally, I believe he was right; however, his unwillingness to relinquish power was not like Gen. Washington. Gen. Washington surrendered his sword, which is something Castro has never been willing to do.

Batista was a puppet-ruler. Here won ran in uncontested elections and was formally recognized by Truman and the U.S. His sole responsibility was to ensure the favorable trade of the U.S. and protect the interests of U.S. businessmen in Cuba. He sold his people like whores to benefit himself, and created radical groups like Castro's revolution. He is the many reason that Castro resorted to protection from the Communist Soviet Union.

Without doubt, neither are particularly good. However, I understand Castro's motivation. U.S. sanctions is a major reason Cuba has not been prosperous. Fidel hasn't destroyed their standard of living alone. Batista never protected the interest of his own people.

Any. Those are like power game. Both promissed to the people a better life and then lied. Both deceived their towns.
Comunism or Socialism should be good if they should promisses.
