As long as both PC's have an ethernet port (RJ45) you can connect them together with a crossover cable - No need for a box inbetween then. You should then be able to run the network setup wizard on both PC's & get connectivity... it's dead easy. Most Pc shops sell ready made crossover cables...

DON'T use ethernet cord from port to port, you will fry your ethernet card, or mb if it's onboard! The crossover cable mentioned in the earlier answer does work, is made to do what you want to, and will not smoke your components. The USB file transfer cables have been getting cheaper, and aren't a bad way to go either. I mostly use an external hard drive, as time is not so much a factor any more. Be sure to do a search checking out any advice you read on here, some answers would cost you a boatload of bucks.

There are a couple of ways to connect the hardware. Either a cross-over cable or by connecting both computers into a hub or switch. Either way you need to make sure that both machines are setup up to "Obtain an IP address automatically" under the TCP/IP Settings. This will allow them to either get addressing from the switch or hub (if it has DHCP services) or the computers will fail over to Automatic Private IP addressing.
Once the two computers can communicate you will need to enable a file share on one of the machines in order to share the files across the network. See the link to file sharing below.
After you have created the file share on one machine you will need to map a network drive on the other machine to your file share. See the link on drive mapping below.
Once you have both your file share and your drive map you can simple copy files from one computer to the other. Good Luck.

Hello. It is very easy. Go to local computer store and purchase a USB-USB peer networking cable and software for $30. It is very easy. Once you start the same software on both PC's you can select file(s) from one PC and paste them to other PC.

do you have a wireless connection on both pcs? if so it simple, on windows xp you need to share the folders, i.e go to my music folder right click, click sharing and security, check the share this folder box, then, click start, network places( or connect to and its at the side), add network place, select next, you should then have the option of typing the network place i.e. the folder you would like to share, in the box type \\server\folder name i.e. \\dads computer\my videos, then click add. do this on bothe pcs for all the folder you would like to share, to access them goto nework places on either pc and they should be there.

try buying a USB, but make sure that when you buy it, both computers are compatible with the USB.
