Johnny Cash's version of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt."

It was such a remarkable song and was so fitting for the time of his life... I think June died shortly after the making of the video... less than a year I think.

Also Pearl Jams' "Better Man" is pretty freakin' sad.
R.E.M. "Everybody Hurts"

"Shame" by Smashing Pumpkins. The simple but heartbreaking lyrics, the lullingly numb music... everything. It's just so sad. "Love is good and love is mine/ Love is drunk all the time" and "Hello, Goodbye, You know you made us cry" are just so sing-songy and lulling, but cut like mofos.

Another would be Lou Reed's "The Bed"... Well, really the line of songs: The Kids, The Bed, and Sad Song... all in a row. The most depressing chain of songs ever. "This is the place our children were conceived/ Candles lit the room brightly at night/ And this is the place where she cut her wrists/ That odd and fateful night..." and "I tried so very hard/ Just goes to show just how wrong you can be" are almost painful to listen to.

Also, Jacques Brel's "Ne Me Quitte Pas". I won't quote it, coz it's French and no one would understand, but... it's like the most painfully desparate and broken cry ever.

Most songs I like that are sad have a little glimmer of hope... The Church's "Hotel Womb", Roxy Music's "True To Life", etc... So they actually make me happy, even though the subject matter is heartbreaking.

Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley is hands down the saddest song ever made. A beautiful, beautiful song nonetheless.

Rob Thomas - Now Comes the Night. It brings a tear each time I hear it.

"When the hour is upon us
And our beauty surely gone
No you will not be forgotten
No you will not be alone

And when the day has all but ended
And our echo starts to fade
No you will not be alone then
And you will not be afraid
No you will not be afraid

When the fog has finally lifted
From my cold and tired brow
No I will not leave you crying
And I will not let you down
No I will not let you down
I will not let you down

Now comes the night
Feel it fading away
And the soul underneath
Is it all that remains
So jus slide over here
Leave your fear in the fray
Let us hold to each other
Till the end of our days"

It's a really great piano song that demonstrates his talent well.

Tomorrow Wendy - Andy Prieboy

It is complete now - two ends of time
Are neatly tied
A one-way street, she’s walking to the
End of the line
And there she meets the faces she sees in
Her heart and mind

They say - goodbye - tomorrow Wendy’s
Going to die
Underneath the chilly gray November sky
We can make believe
That Kennedy is still alive
We’re shooting for the moon and smiling
Jackie’s driving by

They say - good try -
Tomorrow Wendy’s going to die
I told the priest - don’t count on
Any second coming.
God got his a** kicked the first time he
Came down here slumming
He had the balls to come, the gall to die
And then forgive us -
No, I don’t wonder why
I wonder what he thought
It would get us - hey hey, good try -
Tomorrow Wendy’s going to die

You have a lot of sad songs listed there, but if you want a real tear jerk-er try "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro (1968)
