If the base of triangle ABC is 13 inches and the height is ib inches, what is the area in square inches of triangle ADF.


How would you go about working this problem out ?

ADF being the triangle on the far right.....ABC being the whole triangle.

The full triangle is equal to 4 times the area of the small triangle.

The area of the big triangle is:
½bh

= ½(13)(ib)

So the area of the small triangle would be 1/4 of this, or:
= 1/8(13)(ib)
