I havn't had soda since I found out I was pregnant.
Now my baby is two weeks old now so would it be selfish of me to have half a glass. I know what ever I eat and drink goes to my baby, but will it really hurt.

Go for it! A little bit of soda won't hurt you or your baby, even if it has caffeine and sugar for goodness sakes. Don't assume diet is better, like some have said, because some diet drinks contain artificial sweeteners that CAN be harmful to the baby. Sugar never harmed a baby, but aspartame can.

In fact, my OB recommended 7-up for my morning sickness and I found it to help a lot and be very refreshing.

Caffeine and sugar should be limited of course, but once a day is no big deal especially if you eat a healthy diet overall.

Having a soda now and then wont hurt you or your baby. It is honeslt just a myth. However, soda does have caffenine in it, but for it to affect your baby, you would have to consume at least 6 soda's a day! Many people don't know that.

Another myth is that diet soda is better for you. Yes, it is calorie free, but this myth is also not true because diet soda is loaded with artifical sweetners which can be unhealthy to a pregnant mom or nursing mom, and to the baby.

Go ahead and have a soda! Enjoy it! It may taste funny since you havent had one in such a long time though. But, having a soda here and there wont hurt you or the baby.

Congrats on the baby!

It is ok to have soda. My doctor says I am allowed no more than 3 soft drinks a day. I also was told to drink 8-12 cups of water daily. Do not stress about soft drinks and harming the baby. I drank soft drinks with my son and he was fine. Switch to caffeine free or diet sodas.

Absolutly not. There has been a study done, TOO much caffine effects the baby BUT you can safely have up to 300 MG of caffine a day without any bad effects at all. That is equivilent to about 2 cups of coffee. Soda has about 30 -60 mg of caffine. so it is completly safe. I try to have the caffine free stuff still anyway. But trust me half a glass will be absolutly fine.

Good gosh. Have some soda for pete's sake. Drink the whole can if you want to! People get so paranoid over the silliest things. Its incredibly unlikely that your baby will have a reaction if you have small amounts of caffeine on occasion. Just don't down a 2 liter of Mountain Dew for with every meal.

The only way it will hurt is if you are diabetic or have gestational diabetes and have a sugar soda. Otherwise its fine, even the caffeinated variety - just keep coffee down to less then 5 cups a day.

you hear alot of different things from people on the subject of soda being bad or not. All I can tell you I have 2 children a boy and a girl. I didn't drink a soda one till after I delivered my girl, and I drank mountain dew through my entire pregnancy with my son. Both children are fine, they are normal, healthy and hit all of their milestones. I say go for it.

I'd say go for caffeine free soda. If you're drinking plenty of water that should easily balance out the sugar.

PS: Root Beer is caffeine free (and delicious)

its not that you can't have any pop at all during your pregnancy, you just have to have it in moderation and not everyday.
Think of all the women over the last 30yrs who have been drinking coffee or pop and their babies turned out fine. I never knew about the pop thing until this pregnancy and even now i am guilty of drinking a large McDonald's coke 3-4 days a week. All my babies have been born healthy and i always loved my coke with them.

Soda isn't good for us. We know this. It's a lot of sugar and it's empty calories. But hey! You're pregnant. It's not like you want to do drugs. You have a craving. The more you try to avoid it, the more you'll have it. Have a soda. Have the whole entire thing. If it makes you feel better, have it w/o caffeine. (I thought Pepsi was better than Coke- but that's me.) I wouldn't have diet though, b/c again, in my humble opinion, it's better to ingest sugar than chemicals. Have your soda! Enjoy it. Good luck to you!
