Your name is beautiful. If you want people to call you Lynn, then next year when you go to school have your mom put that in the paperwork for preferred name, and the first time your teachers do roll call correct them if they say cavilynn and they will note it in their paperwork. It will eventually catch on. You can also start refusing to answer unless they call you Lynn. When you get a little older I think you will begin to appreciate your unique name, but if not you can always get it changed to something you do like.
By the way, pleeease don't name your daughter Nevaeh. There are thousands of little baby Nevaehs running around right now its its just awful!!

I know how you feel about wanting to be addressed one way, but people who can respect it but choose not to.
The next school day, let teachers know you want to be called Lynn. As for friends and other schoolmates, make known you won't accept being called Cavilynn. It's your name, so you choose what you are called. You can't do anything about the family, as they'll call you whatever they want (most the time what your parents call you).
I started using my nickname a few years ago, but I learned real quick not to tell people what my first name is because they'll rather call me by my first name instead of nickname.

I don't think it is that bad. There are names that are really horid and yours is just a little odd. Estel is nice if you add an A to it. ESTELA. Means the little waves left behind by a boat when it sails through the oceans. I think Estela is pretty and I have a friend called Estela Marina
I think Aztec names put on girls or boys today do sound awful.
Cuahtemoc, Ixtacchiuatl, Itzel, Tsuratsii, Xochitl.....just gross.
good luck

Actually, Nevaeh is a horid name too.
You could end up repeating your parents' mistakes.
The good news is you can have a talk with your
parents and tell them how you feel.
You can easily change your name to something
you like.
I like Estel. You could just use that.

i believe 'cavi' comes from the latin meaning 'cave' and lynn means 'waterfall'.
estel means star and hope
cavar in spanish means to dig
so, maybe your parents are into natural beauty. caves are beautiful and mysterious. waterfalls are beautiful, powerful, and awesome. take it as a compliment.
if you really want people to call you lynn, write it on all your papers you hand in, ask your teachers to call you lynn (this works best on the first day of school). ask your closest friends and family.
leana is an ok name; maybe your parents wanted something original for all of you.
i met a 2-year-old named "gang-sta"
my dentist's assistance was named 'cookie'

It won't sound so bad when you're an older woman. Can you imagine someone named Brittany or Tiffany as a grandmother?! Just sounds odd to me.( No offense to those who are named that). Why not just shorten it to Lynn? My name is Catherine. My granfather who was Polish used to call me Kasia which is the Polish equivelant to my name. Kasia means oatmeal or buckwheat! LOL

Well, I actually like Estelle (when spelled thusly LOL), and Marie is fairly tame given their track record. The rest I can't say I care for. And just a heads up, but created name Nevaeh seems to TOTALLY fit your parents' style -- the one you'd prefer to avoid. ;) Elizabeth Faith is nice however, and offers up plenty of nickname potential ... not to mention being a timeless choice that won't seem already-dated by the time you're ready to have children of your own. ;) You might also like Elizabeth Faye, to avoid the double-TH endings, by the way.
If you truly dislike your name, perhaps the nickname Stella, from Estel, would appeal? Spunky and offbeat, but still classic and familiar. :) Just a thought!

Hopefully other people on this forum will read this post and re-think their "cute and unique" names they plan to bestow upon their children.
Don't worry, when you finish high school, you'll have a fresh start with your name- whether you go to college or get a job you'll be able to tell people what you call you, and it will stick.
