Good question! Your right to vote is a freedom that many people take for granted.
I think some people are just too lazy to register -- like my brother-in-law. Yet, he is the first to complain about the government and what is wrong with it.
If you have something to say about our politicians then get out there and vote.

I beleive that people will vote if they are given something to vote for, some positive that they want in their lives, or something to vote against, some fear they have about a plan or direction. Unfortionatly, the strongest human motivation is fear, not love. Politicos, have used this to their advantage, and in the process, have demonized the other party, so the people who usually vote, vote against their particular demon. If people get afraid of sometning, they will act, if not, they will just go along as usual. I think that in this election, we may see a higher turnout because people are getting afraid of where our country is going, and it's not just a select group of people, but rather a much larger and more diverse group, who want to get back to basics, stop the waste, and they want to stop the rapid gallop toward self destruction that is becomming evident in our foreign policy. The only question in this election is "is there anyone to vote for who can stop this and bring us back to where we want to be"? For me, the answer is RonPaul. He has consistantly voted against waste and for the constitution. He has been, sometimes the only voice in Congress for the preservation of the ideals that made this country great. He is a Doctor, not a banker, not a lawyer, or a movie star, he is just a regular American, and he doesn't have armies of handlers who will sell him to us. We need to look at his record, not necessarily how well rehersed he is. If Abe Lincoln had to sell himself on TV, the world might be a totally different place now.

People are too lazy to take time to go vote. I have voted for the last 12 years. How I look at it is if you dont vote, dont say anything about the Gov. if you vote I can gripe all I want. I want to make this a better country for my children. So I vote for the best person that I believe will better our country, state, and city.

IMO, a number of reasons: they're too lazy to actually get up & go to the polls, they don't really care who's in office and/or don't like any of the candidates.
basically, everyone knows that politicians are all liars who'll promise the votes practically anything to get voted in.
it's really not that complicated. americans find voting a chore, just another annoyance that interrupts their busy lives & schedules; many don't think their individual vote matters, so they just dont' bother.
the ones that do vote, like me, acknowledge that it's a power and privilege and eagerly participate in the voting process. less fortunate citizens of other countries don't enjoy the luxury of self-governance & start wars, riots & overthrow governments!

Most people are more interested in going about their daily lives. Lets face, we are picking the people who will make decisions for us and some people shouldnt vote. I am all for people who do not have a defined opinion and do not research the candidates opting to not vote.

It has been years- literally- since I have seen an election that didn't end up being a mud-slinging contest. When ALL the candidates act like poorly-trained children in a school yard, which one are you going to trust to actually keep all these marvelous promises?

Someone once told me they were more American than me because I opted not to vote during one election. I feel that is a false statement, you have the right to vote, but it doesnt mean you have to vote.
