or a small token to convey the message that you are thinking about their sacrifice and suffering even if you are apposed to WAR such as I am?
I have been thinking about getting my friends, family and neighbours together to try to do something of this nature.
What do you think about my plan?

Actually, I think that would be an awesome idea!
I'm not a supporter of the war, but I do have a special place in my heart for our soldiers at war. Especially, since one of my brothers served the last of his years in the USAF in Afghanistan--we didn't even know he was there until AFTER Christmas.
Since then, we've talked about it and he expressed the despair he felt during Christmas when he didn't get so much as a card or even a random note from us wishing him a Merry Christmas.
So please let me know what comes of your plan. I've wanted to do something like this myself, but I don't really know how to go about doing it.

It is a great plan! I have done this several times. There are several websites you can go to that will give you an address to send your package. It will be sent within the us to a military base, they will check it for what ever it is they check for, then send it off to Iraq. There are people there who do not have families at home and never get packages, you should send to one of them. It is called "any soldier" . They usually request those small cotton gloves, toothbrushes, eye drops, magazines, dental floss, chap-stick and things like that.
It is a great thing to do!

I already have. My daughter's girl scout troop (I was the troop leader) sent cards and homemade gifts for Christmas. These soldiers are serving their (our) country and putting themselves in harm's way every day. They are miles away from anything that feels like home. I believe you can send cards or gifts to show your compassion without supporting the idea or the act of war.

Yes!!! Not just consider it but do it! I had a friend that is no longer with us. Every major holiday she used to send letters and cards to our soldiers who where serving our country else where in the world. In her honor I will be sure to try to help a few of our children serving overseas feel a little closer to home. Thanks for reminding me! Great idea!
By the way, Y/A keep your mitts off this suggestion, it's great!

I would not just consider it i would,
This is the season when it really helps to know people are thinking about you and what you are doing.
I would love it and appreciate it if i was over there
This plan is great, whether you support or not.
I do not support either but i would help you out in a heart beat!

yes, actually you can go to www.letssaythanks.com and they will print out a card for you that goes to a soldier. Its sponsored by xerox. They have cute designs you can choose from, and pre-written messages you can pick from as well, or you can write your own. Its totally free, they print um and send um for you. I did one yesterday. maybe you could either encourage your friends and family to participate in it like I did, or start something similar. Hope it helps!

Good idea! But keep in mind that the deadline to mail packages and letters to soldiers in Iraq so that they'll receive them by Christmas WAS November 13th.

Absolutely, in fact my class is donating things to be sent to our troops. I encourage the kids to write letters and even send paper, stamps and envelopes so the troops can write back. They so appreciate it. Your plan is awesome, best of luck.
