How can anyone beleive that big government is good for a country??? How can you beleive that relying on government to solve all the world's problems is the way to go? I mean, that is essentially what the party beleives. The further to the left you go, the bigger the government. Everyone knows government is horribly inefficient with all the bureaucracies and poor judgement. Why should we trust the government to run health care rather than the healthcare professionals, or to fix global warming when they cant even control spending? It makes no sense!!!

Well, I am a democrat and I can understand where you may have gotten this impression. However, not all democrats believe in "big government. This is a misconception, as is saying that all Republicans are gay-haters (not true at all). In fact I agree with you, as do many democratic politicians.
One of the fundamental beliefs of the Democratic party is that the power should rest in the hands of the American people and not the big corporations that are running the country right now.
And yes, right now our government is horribly inefficient, due to numerous flaws in the system and leaders with poor judgement and little to no long term vision. It is odd that you should criticize Democrats for this, however, when our president is a Republican and up until very recently so was congress............
You have to understand that the government that democrats support is not necessarily the one we have now.
But ultimately, we are all human. We all want the best for our children, the environment, and ourselves. I respect your right to your own opinion and I hope I have not offended you.
God bless.

You make some good points there. Our government is far from perfect but so are corporations. In fact, if I have to choose which one I favor between the two, it's government.
I'm an MBA student. Greed is a huge problem. But you are really doing a disservice by looking at the democratic party this way as this is not what it's about. This may be what it has become but there may be reasons for that that have nothing to do what was actually intended. I'm not a democrat because I want big government, high taxes, and social programs. I want to really deal with the problems we have in our society. The problems are there because of our current system. It doesn't work for everyone. Greed, lack of discipline, lack of consideration, lack of ethics, lack of concern of the planet, etc. etc. These are the underlying problems.

well if you bother to look at the history of the last 10 years you will see that things have come about 180 degrees!,. 10 years ago the liberal congress got kicked out by conservatives with a hidden agenda!,. they promised with a `contract on America` that they would do more than the liberals but their real agenda was to impeach Clinton which was what they were doing for years before that with no success by way of ken Starr! until finally when they were at their most unpopular they literally made a Federal case out of someones dirty laundry which gave the ironic tag line to the bush presidency `bring back integrity to the white house`,. ha!,. what a joke! but when they got re elected again and ran it all from congress to the white house to even the supreme court and they did absolute NOTHING! ,. and now they complain and blame liberals every time bush veto's something 65% of the popualtion want

Well, most don't want big government, just want the government to do more for the people then republicans. For example, most would agree that the government should be in charge and run the military. This is not because it is the cheapest, or most efficient, but because it grantees that the country will have the strongest, most loyal military.
The same is for health care. Most democrats would want a private system if that produces the most efficient, cheapest health care that helped as must as possible. Instead, we rank 37th in our quality, 1st in expense, and low in coverage. So right now, a government system might be the lesser of two evils.
And the previous posts bring up a good point: right now you have Democrats for Big Government, and Republicans for Huge Government.

How can anyone believe that? Because there will always be mindless sheep who want to take the easy way out.
Think about it, even though you're parents ruled with an iron hand (at least mine did) and governed curfews, television, allowance etc. Things were much easier.
Now I have to deal with taxes, mortgages, a wife, in-laws, bills etc.
But, and here's the kicker; I AM FREE!!!
comlibs are merely mindless fools, who would gladly give up their freedom (as well as yours and mine) to be coddled and returned to the womb.
In a nut shell, they are cowards who are ill prepared to take responsibility and face the fact that life is hard, and unfair.

Uh, hello, the Republicans have increased social spending in wartime.
What "makes no sense" is the fact you cant even realize on your own that what you are saying is that shipping our jobs overseas and a widening finacial divide (the way the right has done)is morally acceptable.

Yes.
Many Democrats still admire the Socialist Government of the old Soviet Union.
Many admire the Government of North Korea.
It's what they want here.

The healthcare professionals are not the problem. The insurance industry is ....the ideas being proposed are for universal health insurance, not govt. run health care.
