Right! But the other way CV and/or Ball Joints, Check CV Joints First, Both Sides!

Most likely CV joint. You can't tell for sure until it is up on the hoist. Replacing the axle, complete with 2 new CV joints, should run $200 or less, replacing just one joint is probably close to $150.

Yes, sometimes when you look the Rubber Boot will be busted. But, that what it is.
I had a 1992 Taurus and it cost about $80 at Auto-Zone New not rebuilt. This was the whole axle on the passenger side (Inside and Outside CV). Took all day for me to replace working slow and not rushing myself.

a cv will make a grumbling sound not a pop check ball joint and k member mounts they go bad a lot on taurus
