Do we have some kind of collective guilt that we need to purge, or a Daddy complex? I don't believe we owe anything to other countries. We should stop genocide if we can, but that's about it. What do you think?

We are done giving to these countries when their citizens say:

Who do you yanks think you are? We don't need you.

OK, see ya.

Let the isolation begin. Let the Europeans settle the Balkan issue with Kosovo, Albania, Slovakia etc etc.
We have absolutely no interest there. Why are we there?
How do we always let them leverage us into doing their wet work and have to listen to them call us interventionists?

Build the wall, recall the military, put up the missile defense shield and let them sort it out.

Boss? What could we possibly owe Japan? They attacked us and then refused to surrender in the face of danger. Now they have a stronger economy then the US after we helped them rebuild and saved them from having to pay for military protection.

We don't owe anything to anyone in the world. We should be a good neighbor and help nations that have had natural disasters or are being attacked by a foreign enemy. But we are not required to. That's the UN's job to police the world, not us.

I would like to see the US become more of an isolationist nation (much like the first 150+ years of our existence.)

I was thinking about that this morning. Last night I was at a bar watching the debates with a female friend from Poland, and a guy friend from Australia.

I had to explain a lot to them about our country and how we believe in individual responsibility instead of state run nannyhood. At first they resisted the fact that social responsibility did not rest on the governments shoulders. It was shocking to them that we don't have an adequate retirement system for our seniors with medical care available.

I explained that we do, but the goal of most responsible Americans is to rely on themselves through pragmatic and efficient estate planing so that we have the comfort and security of our youth in our old age (unless of course you work for the government, then you don't have to plan for anything, you get to bypass a lot of financial responsibility).

They agreed that the philosophy made sense but they still didn't grasp the concept.

These two persons are in their early 20's, I am 53.

I suddenly realized this morning that there is really no difference between a lot of the youth of this country and these two LEGAL students.

To answer your question.

No, I'm sick of my money and my country taking care of the rest of the world. Let Europe spend money on defense instead of welfare. Let the USA spend money on infrastructure at home instead of abroad.

Let the world implode and learn to live without the US. They did it for centuries as little as a century ago, they should learn to do it again.

As far as the war against radical islam is concerned, that's something I believe deeply in and I support 1000%.

The US has done tremdous damage in many places throughout the world. We've stolen, murdered, tortured; we've put into power, and kept in power oppresive and brutal governments -- just for the profit of a few.

And we've treated huge hunks of the planet as a toxic garbage dump.

So, yes, we DO owe those who have suffered, and are suffering at our hands.

Then there's just being decent human beings in cases of natural disasters.

But if we just woke up and stopped electing those who keep doing the same wrong things over and over and over, that would be a step in the right direction, and would probably be much appreciated by the victims of the government that "represents" us.

I think that it is the responsibility of everyone who is able to assist and reach out to those who are less fortunate.
I was lucky enough to be born into a developed country, where I have access to everything I need to stay safe, happy and healthy. Who am I to say that others don't deserve the same luxuries I enjoy? Developed countries have excess of just about everything.
However, it's a "teach a man to fish" situation. Providing rice and bottled water is a good short term solution, but that does nothing to sustain countries in the long term. Education is key. Teach people how to grow and eat healthy food, provide access to and teach the importance of clean water and sanitization, teach people to read and learn things for themselves, and provide access to medical care.

In other words, help lesser developed countries to help themselves. The flip side is, dont force aid on them. Barging in and saying "we know what's right and you don't", and forcing western beliefs on people who have their own way of life, is just going to impede progress.

We owe China money. There are some countries that it's in our best interests to work with or protect.

The word owe bothers me.

Humanitarian aid is one thing, but I think it is a little out of control.
