I'm writing a short story (Please don't give me specific ideas. It's not what I need). Sometimes when writing short stories, I get stuck on what to really write about (I'm more of a novelist than a short story writer).
So, what are some good, mature morals. Not little kid ones, like "Growing up isn't so bad." "Responsibility" and so on. No religious ones either, like "God Is Great" "Jesus Saved Us For Our Sins".
I just need a broad, mature morals, such as "Death Is Something You'll Have To Cope With" or "Appearance Really DOES Count", things like that.
Thanks all!

1. Sometimes you have to do things that other people will hate you for... to save them (as in interventions).
2. Wisdom and intelligence are not the same.
3. Sometimes, things really are the way they seem...
4. Secrets are secrets for a reason. A friend who can't keep a secret - and unintentionally hurts you - is worse than an enemy who would intentionally seek to hurt you.
5. Inaction to help someone in trouble is just as bad as hurting them.

Often times, the squeakiest wheel, gets the most grease.
Say what you are thinking, or it will bug you forever.
Honesty is only USUALLY the best policy.
Ask for it. As a policy- it can't hurt to ask.
good start?? Good luck.

I'll let you draw the conclusions you like about these, but some morals I would suggest would be honesty, humility, and compassion. Good luck with your story.

so what have you got against responsibility? how do you expect adults are????
----
three things "I" grew up with------
1
don't lie to me
no one likes a liar
2
don't steal from me or anyone else
no one likes a thief
3
don't stab me in the back
no one likes someone talking behind your back
-------
something "I" came up with
no one likes a common drunk
no one likes a druggie
try to be a good neighbor until they prove they don't deserve it.
try to commit an act of nice every day...for someone close AND someone you don't know.
is this enough?

"Choose a husband who is reliable and has a good income potential; do not choose based on romantic love alone you will be sorry"
"It is okay and actually empowering to leave a job and tell people to shove it when you are young and still in school, because you can't do that anymore when you're older and need the reference for your next job"
"Be enthusiastic and look a person in the eye; the job will be yours"

How about "a good marriage takes work from both partners" or "drug addicts will go to jail or the cemetary if they refuse to get into rehab". , "being the other woman is selling yourself short"

If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing well...Happiness does not result from what you have but from who you are...Your attitude can make you or defeat you...Self-fulfillment is found in serving others, not in serving yourself
