If I counted correctly...
One-thousand-two hundred-fifty-one times I believe.
I share your frustration.

Well?
Not to be “brash” – But “Never”...
I have been known to be too assertive and say more than I probably should have – or overkill in some areas.
And then I realize that – maybe – I’ve said a little too much and then feeling worse there aft. Then going back and making an apology for over re-acting...
It’s not so good to have a “good come back line or not”. It’s better to just turn away from such ignorance from others and know that you’ve made a better choice for your self and that you don’t have to lower your standards down to there’s.

I can relate. But, what I then do, I think of a good retort or an insulting remark so that the next time I come into contact with the person, I'm prepared. As they say, practice makes perfect..lol.

I used to know a guy back in grade school, who never wanted for a snappy answer. From 5th to12th grade, he always had his chicks, and never failed to be elected class President. Anyway, I thought his was a good practice to imitate. I have become good at comebacks, but I confess that once in a while, words have failed me, or I just decided that the time and place necessitated that I refrain from the comeback line.

That used to happen to me a lot -- almost all the time, but now I have a knack for snappy comebacks.

I guess that's the opposite of being quick witted. I, too, tend to think before I speak, unless I'm furious. I suppose I'm not too quick witted, I'm half-quick witted.
