Pride and Prejudice is full of great letters! You've got to read the book and take notes on the letters, picking the ones that you think are the most important to the story. You'll never write a good essay without a thorough reading of the text.

I'd say the first thing to do is pick out which two letters you're going to pick. There are many great examples, from Mr. Darcy's letter to Elizabeth, to Lydia's letter to Kitty about her elopement, to Mr. Collins' letters (he writes at least two, maybe more). There are other letters too; I just can't think of them all. Then all you have to do is compare and contrast them. I would say their style will be evident because I've noticed the way the characters write is complemantary to their personality (i.e. Mr. Collins is verbose so his letters appear that way; Lydia is flighty so her letter is brief). The tone of the letter is based on the events going on at the time of the letter. As for why Jane Austen placed the letters in the novel, I'n not really sure how to help there. If you want a comparison, I would try to pick two letters that are based on the same thing, like Lydia's elopement. But whatever is easiest for you to write about is best. Good luck!
