I lived right next door to the Cinema when I was a kid, and just after the War ended and the cinema opened again for the first time the people used to queue right down the street and round the corner. We used to go in on a Saturday morning and watch the cliffhangers which were continued the next week.

I loved it too, me and my sisters were dutifully dropped off at the Cinema by our mother and picked up a couple of hours later, then home for lunch and off out to enjoy the rest of our Saturday.

I remember it in Birmingham, I even remember the films and programmes they showed Lost in space, Four winds, Adventures of Batman, we also had weekly talent contests, and my mom gave me a tanner for sweets. I always had 24 fruit salad's or black jack's.

Don't know what a tanner is. We went to the afternoon movie, got in, cola, popcorn for about 20 cents.

I used to go to the one in Camden Town with my pocket money of half a crown or 22.5p as it became. With the two bob I had left over I would head for Wimpey's.
