This question is disgusting, but I'm dying to know. Why, oh why, when I'm menstruating, does my blood smell like fish? I mean, seriously, is this natural, or should I go to the doctor?

Don't worry. Yes it is disgusting but you are not alone! It has to do with a lot of things; body temperature, bacteria, hormones, and .... the blood. It's not unusual, it's just an embarrasing and nasty normal thing (that no one likes to talk about). If it is that much of a problem for you, purchase some personal cleansing wipes to carry around with you during "that time" and use scented pads (or try Always Clean scented w/ wings). Also make sure that you change your pad frequently, every two hours or less (if needed).
Hope this helps!!

A "slight" fishy smell is not abnormal. If you are sexually active and have not been examined by a doctor, then by all means...go get a baseline exam. If you are not sexually active, do not use tampons, then I would guess that this smell is normal for you. If you find it unbearable, it is OK to douche with plain water once your period has ended. If you have never been sexually active, you dont need to worry about STD's. If you have had unprotected sex, you may have to be concerned about this. Remember that the use of tampons is generally safe but that the discharge remains in the vagina until you change it. The vagina is a warm, moist place....great for bacterial growth.

Fishy smells usually indicate I would get in to see a gynecologist.

that could just be "your" scent..
but you may also have some kind of infection going on, as that is a big indicator of some type of vaginal infection..
I would just call your nurse and see what she has to say, she may want you to come in and be seen..

I think it's normal to have some odor. That's why some pad and tampon ads talk about odor control. Also that's why pads and tampon come in deodorant.
I wouldn't worry unless it was REALLY bad.

It shouldn't have a fishy odor. You should see a doctor. Good luck. 2D
