I believe there are 3 reasons that ECW isn't as successful as Vince would like it:
1. The ECW name did bring some expectations, but the fact is, a good portion of WWE's fans are young kids who only know ECW from youtube videos. So the treatment of the originals only pissed off the older fans.
2. A one hour time slot makes it hard to establish good storylines. If we go one or two weeks without seeing a superstar (because they're not fit in to the time slot) then that superstar cannot earn face or heel credibility, making them boring to follow.
3. The last reason is WWE's insistance to make midcarders automatic main-eventers. With the exception of Big Daddy V (which has been with the company forever and I was glad to see reach main event status) Miz and Morrison came out of nowhere into title contention. I like seeing new guys get a push, but not isantaneously.( let them work there way up) WWE has enough main eventers on the other two brands to send some to ECW( which was the plan for Benoit)

On a certain standpoint, I would have to say yes. Too many people try to associate it with the original ECW and expected it to turn out like that when it just simply isn't the same and never will be. I also think they should have kept it named Velocity or something so people wouldn't expect so much from it. I mean, i wouldn't say new ECW is "BAD", but it's nothing compared to original ECW, and now the org. ECW wrestlers are pushed aside constantly, so I can see why there is such a hate program for it. It is called Extreme Championship Wrestling, but where's the extreme? There's never any weapons or tables or anything involved anymore yet they seem to think they are extreme. Yeah sure at first, the fact that it was supposed to be a "ressurrection of ECW" caught viewers attention, but soon after I think it lost most of those viewers. If it were named something else, people wouldn't expect all that from it and if didn't have such a reputation, there would be a less of a reason to bash.

I think that if it was not called ECW it would not be any more popular but I do think that people would be less critical of the show if it was not called ECW. People are mainly critical of the new ECW because it is not the same type of wrestling as the old ECW. In the old ECW they had hardcore matches far more often and they continually pushed the envelope using many different types of weapons and matches to make it exciting for their fans. The new ECW is more classic WWE style wrestling in which there are not as many hardcore matches and the show is more storyline based. In general, I think the ECW name is not suited for the show, but I don't think a name change would have helped the show in the ratings.

to be honest ecw is a good brand and even if it did have a different name people would still be hating it cuz it would have some ecw originals and sayin o it should called ecw cuz it has some ecw originals so either way it wouldnt matter. Ecw is a good brand tho and people should stop living in the past and actually give ecw a chance

Yes.
Hearing The Name, "ECW" Makes Everyone Think of Hardcore.......Beyond Hardcore, Wrestling. But When They Tune in They See No Extreme Matches, No ECW Originals, No Paul Heyman Ect.
Starred, Good Question..

I don't think so.
If ECW wasn't "revived" initially, most of the ECW originals of the WWE would've possibly released or buried and then released. The only originals the WWE would've kept are Nunzio, Steven Richards, Rob Van Dam, and Tommy Dreamer.
If there was a show made for Sci-Fi, it would end up like Velocity and Shotgun Saturday Night after a few weeks: the jobber and low-mid card show.

As a matter of fact, I think it would be even less successful. ECW became big in 2006 because it was supposed to be the resurrection of the old ECW. If it was just another show under a different name it wouldnt have been that popular.

Definetely agreed cause thee fans expected to see something in the same level and even better than the old ECW but they were completely disappointed at the beginning. The treatment to the originals was very bad and even unprofessional cause never the WWE pushed them except from RVD...
Under another name, the crowd would have been happy but generally i believe that 3 brands are nto that good for the WWE..
At most 2 brands is good!Cause the writers can't think anytime of different storylines for 3 brands and that do not attract the people to watch all of them...

I dint know what the big deal is the new ECW rocks its great I personally dont think people should be killing themselves like past ECW because that is not wrestling but I wouldn't mind an extreme rules match every now and then. Also I love the ECW superstars the new ones Elijah,CM Punk and Morrison are alredy one of my favorites and the new ECW is a great place to make main event talent I used to think Miz sucked now I kinda like him and now that ECW teamed up with Smackdown its a world of possibilitys.
maybe make the E stand for Entertaiment not Extreme but still I love that show

they tried that years ago with Velocity and Heat, didn't work out. ECW already had ratings because people thought they were gonna get the real product, not a watered down WWE developmental show, so i think the name ECW is the only thing that gave it any ratings, whatsoever
