If they don't, he could come here to the NYY for a 4 year deal.

Mike Lowell was the heart and soul for the Sox team this year. WS MVP + Awesome stats + Leadership.

I think the Sox might up it by another 4 or 5 million at the most, but other then that they might let him go.

I think he might go to the Yankees, thats a big possibility condsidering the Yankees would want a player who can hit AND field which they dont get from Jason Giambi or Andy Phillips.

I don't think the Red Sox will go for more than 3 years, so it is likely that Lowell has played his last game in Boston. However, he will only play for the Yankees if he takes the 3 year deal. It would be a risk for any team to sign him for 4 years. The Yankees shouldn't offer more than 3.

If Lowell goes to the Yankees, it will be only for the $$. I think his heart is in Fenway. Remember that last year Lowell hit 50 points lower in the Stadium than he did in Fenway, so it's not clear he'll be worth the money, and after watching how well Johnny Damon has done with his longer contract, I don't know why the Yankees are even interested.

My guess is he'll either negotiate with the Sox, which will be tough, or he'll go somewhere that he doesn't have to deal with all the high drama of NYC and Boston.

I think the Sox have to do everything they can to keep Mike Lowell in Boston. If for anything- to keep him away from the Yankees.

Lowell though up in age- has proven that he can deliver in the post-season- he is the reigning WS MVP. And esp. with A. Rod's history of poor post-season you'd be adding another bat to the NY lineup (on top of the fact that Lowell hits well in Boston) basically if it's BOS-NY for the ALCS that one move may come back and bite Boston in the butt.

It's not about how much- but how long. Lowell wants a 4yr deal, Boston only wants to give him a 3. Lowell is also a gold-glove 3b so he may not want to switch over to 1B-- if Boston doesn't re-sign him they better hope he goes to any other team but the Yankees.

i wouldn't mind having him on my team- the LA Dodgers.

Lowell is no spring chicken anymore, 4 yrs is a long time for his age. I think he stays with the sox with a 1 yr option with incentives to make a 4 yr contract attractive. Why would the yankees make him play 1st ? Arod should play first, Lowell is the better 3rd basemen. That won't happen, Lowell will sign with the sox before turkey day.

putting Lowell at first base has got to be the worst idea anyone has ever had about anything!!! i completely disagree: i don not think mike Lowell wants to go to the Yankee's! i think he likes the sox, but they gotta extend the offer to at least 4 years! then offer him some bonus cash should we end up in the post season again. i don't think the yankee's will get him, and i hope the red sox do.

I think the Red sox might let him go. They have shown a great skill in not throwing money at players and in developing guys from their farm system. That is one reason why they have won two world series in this century and the yankees have not.

I think that they may try to but I am not sure that it will be enough. I think he actually wants to go to the NYY right now. The Yankees want him to play 1B right now, Giambi is going to DH full time and Lowell will play 1B.

I think he will eventually sign with the Sox...the Yanks want to put him at first which I don't think he wants to do...he has said he will take a hometown discount to sign with the Sox and I think the two sides will eventually come to an agreement.
