No fortunately this has never happened to me. I'm not sure why but for some reason I guess I just am so nice and friendly that no one ever bothers me by continuing to talk when I'm not really interested, you know what I mean? For example sometimes I really am passionate about some really important topic, like let's say why Benjamin Franklin would have been a better Chairman of the Federal Reserve than Alan Greenspan, or just maybe like if you were reincarnated as a professional soccer player, who would you be, well then people just seem to let me talk with out ever interupting but only because I am so interesting and important. None of the people I know ever really go on and on and on and on and on, maybe just because I would never stand for something like that and they damn well know it, you know what I mean?

The last time this happened was in a supermarket and I passed a friendly remark to someone. She had just lost her husband and needed someone to talk to or maybe at. People were very good to me when I lost my parents. I gave her a sympathetic ear and indeed let her cry a little, I can not remember how long we spoke but I perhaps re-paid a little my debt to those people who were so kind to me. I think the lesson to me was that often time is unimportant but patience is.

Yes, my husband does that all the time. I'll ask him a simple question and he has to go into a long explanation. By the time he's finished explaining everything I've already forgotten what my question was.

My coworker does that. Everyone dislikes her here. I was upstairs reading....does she care? Nope! She sat at my table and started talking. Not general conversation either..Personal crap.

This person has also done this to other people who were reading or studying. Now when I see her in the breakroom I leave.

Yeah it is annoying, just as annoying as someone who asks such pointless questions like 'has someone ever started talking to you?'. I hope that you are unemployed or on lunch, if I was your boss I would can you so fast.

Yes, there was a guy at my school who did that just last week. He even would keep talking as this other guy was talking to me -- trying to talk over him. It was obvious I wasn't interested, but... grrrrrr. annoying.
