I think its how you treat the animal. Any animal can be mean, its just how you treat it.

I agree with you completely. I think that any animal can become aggressive if it does not get the proper amount of love and training. People who think that all Pit Bulls are mean are uneducated and will beleive anything the media tells them. This is unfortunate since the media often twists the story so that any short-haired, muscular dog is considered a "pit bull" in their story, pit bull attack stories attract more people. I'm not trying to say that every single pit bull is an angel, because that would make me as ignorant as the people who say that every single pit is vicious. However, I do know a lot of friendly, loving pit bulls exist, but most people aren't willing to even give them a chance because they are narrow-minded and scared. Anything that people are scared of they automatically hate, but it's not fair that every pit bull is labeled dangerous just because a few irresponsible owners have ruined their dogs. Any dog has the possibility to become aggressive. The APBT is the #1 most abused dog in the USA. It's not their fault that they've grown up in such horrid conditions. I don't think that a few people's stupid mistakes should affect responsible owners and their pit bulls. Stupid people should be banned from owning dogs of any kind.

its just people who generalize cause thats all you ever hear on the news when theyre talking about someone being attacked by a dog. a lot of these people dont have experience with owning a pit bull, and another reason is because there are lots of idiots out there who get these dogs to look tough and mean. those are the people who end up making their dogs aggressive. i had a very good little pit bull for almost 5 years and she never bit me once or showed any aggressiveness to anyone, dog or human. yet my chihuahua has bitten me 100s of times since he was a pup

It has alot to do with all the media reports. They are fast to make lots of teasers for the news when it's a pit bull attack. If it's another breed they only devote half the time. It to them strikes fear and fear means you watch the news. People that don't know any better fear them for all the media reports. ALL breeds are prone to biting. Smaller dog bites aren't reported as much and don't make a good story. I got bit by my cat once. Does that mean all cats should be banned? No. It's just the idiots out there that shouldn't have this breed that cause the bad image.

Because Pit Bulls are a favored dog type for things like dog fighting. They are very muscular and powerfull. There have been tons of articles and incidents involving Pit Bulls and violence .. most the result of bad owners and or torment of the dogs involved.
People are afraid of what they don't know, and with their stong build coupled with what people hear ( the violence and not about the bad owners) they have become a poster dog for Animal violence. Similar to the Rott.

It a reputation, just like a race or religion, there are dog breeds that just get a reputation. Because Pitt Bulls have been known for being trained to fight in dog fights or to be aggressive dogs, they get that classic reputation of being mean and aggressive. Don't get me wrong, genetically they may have a more aggressive nature. BUT a huge factor is how the dog is raised. I know a large number of pit bulls that are really just the sweetest things. Rottiweilers also get a bad reputation, but most of them are just big babies that want to lick you to death!

I particularly have 4 dogs: a Chow, a Pit, A Pit/Lab flow, & a flat-lined retriever. I particularly have had those forms of dogs because they have been approximately 6 weeks previous. they have in no way been taught to be recommend or agressive. yet, my Chow will bite anybody that he does not know in the event that they arrive interior the homestead or attempt to hardship me. it particularly is merely instinct. My Pit acts agressive to human beings she does not know & could bite if given the possibility. She too, is rather shielding of me & this could desire to be instinct too. Any dogs may well be made recommend & regrettably some dogs advance short or undesirable tempers merely like human beings can. the two way, i does not get rid any of my dogs. we like one yet another & it particularly is all that concerns. i'm merely very careful approximately how I shelter them while strangers are around.

people don't find out for themselves about the breed. instead they soak up other ignorant minded opinions and make them thier own. Statistically, a german shep. has a higher bite rate and in my experiance, chihuahuas and other small dogs are worse that pits. you're right. any animal can be made mean and/or fearful. people are cruel and pits are very sweet dogs.

The name "pit" bull is because these dogs were bred for pit fighting. The more aggressive and tenacious the better.

Now people are making pets of them and sometimes it works just fine and other times the breeding shows and the dog will unexpectedly attack a small child or other dog and main or even kill it.

Hopefully, responsible breeding will eventually win out and these animals will be free of this miserable stigma, but I wouldn't trust one around a small child.

Yes, any animal can be mean if mistreated, but the pit isn't being mean, he's simply doing what he was bred to do and that's why its a problem.

It is how you treat the animals, i have a thorough-bred pittbull and he is one of te nicest dogs i know. Some people are just scared of what they can't control. Animals are like people, they have their own minds, attitudes, and opinions. [:

I'm not so sure. I think my Dachshund would suck if I entered him in Itatrod no matter how I treated him. However I am sure he can dig holes faster than any sled dog. Therefore I am willing to believe that a dog breed bred for fighting ability might tend towards viciousness.
