Years ago David Beckham was praised and almost worshipped. When people said England and soccer Beckham usually found its way into the conversation. He used to be the symbol of soccer in England. He may not have been the best but he was still a very good player. He moved to the Galaxy so that he could give publicity to soccer in the U.S. He has a ton of endorsements. You should atleast show him the respect he deserves. Show him the same respect that he got when he was still in England. When Zidane's and Pele's careers ended nobody critisized them. Zidane was red carded and thrown out of the World Cup finals. I'm a fan of Zidane too but, come on you can't just call someone a loser just b/c they come to the U.S. to play soccer.

You know, I have a very funny feeling that he is looking to INVEST in the American soccer scene.
He establishes an academy in LA 2 years BEFORE joining the Galaxy?
He visits FC Harlem (the only LA player to do so) with some members of Red Bull New York?
He spoke HIGHLY of American athletes?
I believe that his aim is to try to pull a Russel Crowe move and re-create Man U in LA or another club in the MLS.
What the hell, he has the star power to do it, and there is a still-untapped market for the game in this country.

Bottom line...

Guys like Cobi Jones, Willie Randolph, Lou Pinella and even Ruud Guulit go on to coach after their careers.

The Jordans, Beckhams, and Wayne Gretzkys go on to OWN and become bosses when their playing days are done.

Come on. He is totally doing it for the money. There is no soccer buzz in LA (in English anyway). The Galaxy sold out the Home Depot Center (27,000) because of Beckham, who hardly played. The Galaxy did not make the playoffs, but the Chivas did and probably drew about a 1/2 crowd for their big playoff game. Beckham chose to leave Europe where people care about his sport to play in a country where no English speaking people over the age of 7 have any connection to soccer, where football is not soccer. And Beckham is doing it for A-Rod money. It is not for the love of the game. It's all about taking Anshutz's money and they've got plenty to throw down the US soccer sinkhole. So no, you are right, Beckham is not a loser, but he is doing something for money not for love. What does that make him again?
